CertainTeed offers wide range of products for residential roofing. Their shingles come in four styles which are: 3-tab, shake, slate, and tile.
3-Tab Shingles
Also known as 3-tab shingles (due to the cut of the shingle) or simply strips, strip shingles are the original and most basic asphalt shingles. 3-tab shingles made from a single layer of asphalt and have a very flat appearance that typically offers a slate look. They generally weigh and cost less than other asphalt shingles.

They’re made by injection-molding petroleum-based materials into metal forms that are cast from authentic slate. Some brands of synthetic slate shingles are manufactured with virgin rubber or plastic, while other products incorporate recycled rubber or plastic, mineral dust or cellulose fibers. Recycled content usually consists of high-quality post-industrial materials; only a few incorporate post-consumer recycled materials.3

Better resistance to algae and staining: The brand uses granules with algae-fighting copper on all its lines. Each comes with a stain warranty.
The length is 15 years on more than half; 10 years on the rest. Most other brands offer algae warranties on select lines only. Only Atlas shingles, with lifetime algae warranties on three premium lines, is better in this regard.
Wind resistance: The heavier weights help keep shingles in place in high winds. Warranties are only average: 60 mph warranty for most 3-tab and 110 mph warranties on all others.
The better warranty can be boosted to 130 mph with enhanced installation, a feature other top brands also offer. The XT 30 IR is among select few 3-tab shingles we’re aware of with a 70mph wind warranty rather than a 60mph warranty.
Warranty
CertainTeed has upgraded its warranty for 2019 and beyond. 15 out of 19 lines come with a lifetime warranty against defects clause. The warranty now ranks with GAF’s warranty among the best.5
